Letitia James Faces Criminal Bank Fraud Indictment

A federal grand jury brought charges against the New York attorney general over allegations of financial misconduct on Thursday, according to someone with knowledge of the case.

Lindsey Halligan personally presented the case before the judicial panel this Thursday, the person said.

US attorneys do not typically present to a grand jury.

Halligan was installed as US attorney last month following Donald Trump expressed dissatisfaction over the speed of investigations targeting political opponents.

This step marks a recent strategy to leverage the DOJ to punish political rivals.

This occurs a fortnight following Halligan obtained indictments involving Comey.

Long-serving lawyers drafted a memorandum in that case outlining why indictments lacked merit.

Comey entered a not guilty plea recently.
