The domestic football league derby involving one local team and Hapoel Tel Aviv was abandoned before the start on Sunday, following what law enforcement described as "public disorder and serious disturbances".

"Many of smoke grenades and flares were set off," law enforcement posted on online platforms, adding "this is not a sporting event, it represents disorder and major hostilities".

Twelve individuals and several officers were harmed, officials confirmed, while nine people were taken into custody and sixteen detained for questioning.

The clashes come just days after representatives in the Britain announced that supporters of the team ought to be banned to be present at the Europa League match at Aston Villa in England the following month because of security issues.

One team criticised the derby cancellation, claiming law enforcement of "gearing up for a war, rather than a sporting event", particularly during discussions in the build-up to the eagerly-awaited fixture.

"The alarming events near the venue and following the irresponsible and scandalous judgment to cancel the match only prove that the authorities has taken control of the football," the club announced publicly.

The other team has declined to speak, except to confirm the game was called off.

The ruling by Birmingham's Safety Advisory Group to prohibit club followers from the Birmingham game on the sixth of November has sparked extensive disapproval.

The government officials has since said it is attempting to reverse the prohibition and exploring what extra measures might be required to ensure the fixture can be held without incident.

The English club informed their security personnel that they were not required to attend at the fixture, saying they recognized that some "might feel uneasy".

On the previous day, law enforcement confirmed it supported the restriction and categorized the fixture as "high risk" based on information and past events.

That encompassed "physical confrontations and discrimination incidents" between Ajax and their supporters prior to a match in the Netherlands in the previous year, when numerous persons were arrested.

There have been rallies at various games over the situation in Gaza, including when Israel competed against Norway and Italy in current qualification games.
