The England manager Criticizes Wembley Fan Atmosphere Despite Comfortable Wales Victory.
Thomas Tuchel expressed his disappointment that the England team did not receive greater encouragement from the Wembley spectators during their decisive triumph over Wales on Thursday night.
The manager was satisfied to see his side showcase their strong performance, with finishes from Rogers, Ollie Watkins, and Bukayo Saka inside the opening quarter settling the contest. But, he was not content with the energy at the iconic venue.
“With limited training days to prepare against a drilled team and we excelled,” Tuchel stated. “We could have been five goals ahead at half-time. We couldn’t score the fourth and fifth goals. There was little noise. We didn’t get support from the stands. We did everything to win.”
“What more can you give in 20 minutes? We didn’t let them get away. If you hear just Wales fans for 30 minutes, it’s sad because the team deserved more support today.”
“I support this statement. There’s nothing more than leading 3-0 in a derby. I would have wished for a little more support in periods where it is challenging.”
“After halftime, to support us, there was excessive backing for the opposition. It could have helped us to recharge, but it is what it is and that is it.”
Selection Choices Vindicated by Performance
Apart from potentially starting a dispute among fans, Tuchel also raised eyebrows by leaving out Bellingham and Foden from his squad. However the decision was validated by Morgan Rogers delivering another standout performance in the No 10 position and netting his maiden goal for his country.
“He is what he is,” the head coach noted. “He operates as an attacking midfielder and he is fighting for his spot.”
Wales Manager Seeks Improvement from Loss
The Wales manager expressed hope that his team, who face a strong Belgian side in a crucial World Cup qualifier on Monday, improve after their disappointing performance in the opening period.
“That’s the reason I wanted this friendly,” the manager commented. “I need to see our current level. What are our ambitions? What is our identity? Today fills me with drive.”
Injury Concern for Watkins
Ollie Watkins was withdrawn at the break after colliding with a post and may miss out when England face their next opponents in Riga in a qualifier on next week.
